Preparedness


 After mitigation the next step is to further prepare for the disaster.

1. Supplies
HEALTH
- Items for your wellbeing, stockpiling these for a natural disaster will  save your life
- Water - an essential for both hygiene and the human body, a person can only last 3 days without hydration so it is a good idea to stock up water that could last for at least 3 days.
- Foods - A person can only last up to 3 weeks without food so stocking up on foods that don’t perish fast such as canned goods is a good idea. Examples of which are : Canned meat, Canned vegetables, Carbohydrates, Instant noodles, Special foods for people who have special diets, Snack bars
- A first aid kit  - A bag or container filled with medical supplies that are used to heal you or others. Examples of its contents are : Alcohol, bandages, plaster, safety pins, antibiotics, scissors, tweezers and disposable rubber gloves.
- Non prescription drugs - common drugs for things such as headaches or pain relievers.
COMMUNICATIONS
- In a survival situation communication equipment can be useful for getting information about the rest of the world or relaying information.
- Battery operated radio - This can be useful to listen to government broadcasts for news, information and instructions about what to do.
- A whistle - This simple tool could help you relay where you are or communicate with others without the need for electricity.
2. Evacuation plan
- Each household should be familiar with their home and should have an evacuation plan that also includes what to do during a Typhoon/Earthquake and other protocols the residents wish to implement.
3. Mandatory evacuation
- In the event of high floods or a fire all residents must head away from their homes and towards the front gate of the homeowners association when it is deemed safe to do so.
